FAQs
about the Recruitment Process
How
do I get involved with Greek life at UVA?
The best way to get involved with Greek life at the University of
Virginia is to register for Formal Recruitment through the
Interfraternity Council. You can get more information about this at
the IFC website, specifically
IFCrush.com.
What kind of grades do members of Beta Theta Pi earn?
The members of the Omicron Chapter are among the top, if not the
first-ranked, at the University of Virginia. Our average GPA last
semester was a 3.51. As devotion to the cultivation of the
intellect is one of our focuses, we are consistently above the
all-men's average and the all-fraternity average.
What is the inside of the Beta House like?
The Beta House was completely remodeled in 2007 to a
state-of-the-art living and social facility, featuring plasma
screens, leather furniture, and a high-definition projector system
in the Great Room. In addition to a championship pool table,
the House features 16 individual bedrooms.
What is your pledge period like?
Our pledge period is eight weeks in length. The eight-week period is
focused on positive growth and integration within the active
chapter. Our non-hazing program allows for the positive development
of the brother, as he will be educated in Beta's great history,
lore, songs, and ritual. Pledges will also participate in community
service events and partake in weekly study tables.
Is there a grade requirement to join?
Yes, the grade requirement to pledge or to be an active member of
Beta Theta Pi is a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
How many men will pledge this semester?
It is difficult for the brothers of the chapter to accurately
predict how many men will be invited to pledge, however we are
always wanting to invite as many quality men to become brothers as
possible.
What organizations do Betas participate in?
Betas are arguably one of the most involved at the University.
A more complete list of Beta involvement is found under Chapter
information, but Betas are represented in and hold high positions in
the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, the University Guide
Service, the Honor Committee, the University Judiciary Committee,
the UVA Mock Trial Team, and many others.
What type of social events do you hold?
We hold a variety of social events with unique themes, ranging from
dinner parties to mixers with other sororities and fraternities at
the University of Virginia. These parties are usually held at a
private establishment. We hold multiple sorority mixers, themed date
functions, a winter semi-formal and a spring parent/date
formal. In addition, numerous brotherhood events such as athletic
tournaments and cookouts are scheduled throughout each semester.
