Welcome from the President

This is the official website of the Omicron Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at the University of Virginia.  The Chapter was founded in 1855 and was most recently re-colonized in 2007.  We invite you to learn more about our history and lore at the University of Virginia and nationwide.

Welcome to the Omicron Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at the University of Virginia! We in Beta Theta Pi consider ourselves above all else brothers and friends, but commit ourselves also to being gentlemen, scholars, servants, and leaders. I invite you to explore our website and learn more about a fraternity steeped in history and tradition, energized by a common vision, and constituted by a diverse group of 63 outstanding college men.

   --Michael O'Connell, Chapter President

Beta's Men of Principle Initiative

 Men of Principle

The ideals of the Men of Principle initiative are not merely aspirations for the fraternity- they're qualities we seek to encourage throughout the University. Pursuant to this goal, each autumn we give out $2,000 of scholarship money to deserving first and second year non-Greek men. Every year we receive many qualified applicants: a testament to the quality of character of young men at the University. After reading through the applications, those who stand out are invited to the Beta Chapter House for interviews with current brothers. Ten finalists are invited to our Men of Principle Scholarship dinner, where they are treated to good company, good food, and a speech from a prominent member of the University community. At the dinner, our scholarship recipients are announced. Through this process, we seek not only to recognize young men who have embodied the ideals of the Men of Principle initiative, regardless of Greek affiliation, but also to introduce non-Greek men to a new vision of fraternity life: one that celebrates the qualities of a gentleman, a scholar, and a leader.  For more on the Men Of Principle initiative, click here.

Applications for the Men of Principle Scholarship are closed at this time.

 Philanthropy & Community Service

Betas are involved with a multitude of community service around Charlottesville.  Betas believe it is important to remember that UVa is not simply a bubble, but an integral part of Charlottesville and greater Albemarle County.  Thus, we have set ourselves a combined standard of at least 795hrs of service per semester.

The following is a selected list of community service events from last semester.

Beta and Kappa Tug for the Town
benefiting the Free Clinic of Charlottesville

Beta and Chi-O Southern Sampler
benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation

 Intramurals

The Omicron chapter participates in intramural sports throughout the academic year. We pride ourselves on athletic excellence and regularly field teams in:

7 on 7 Football
Ultimate Frisbee
Outdoor Soccer
Indoor Soccer
4 on 4 Football
5 on 5 Basketball

We view intramural sports as a way to not only strengthen our brotherhood but also maintain physical fitness while having fun.
